New lighthouse exhibit opens

The National Archives, Mid-Atlantic Region has announced the opening of a new exhibit called, “Beacons on the Shore: Lighthouses of the Mid-Atlantic Region.

The exhibit focuses on several themes, including architectural evolution, technological development, and maintenance of lighthouses. Visitors will view a symbolic voyage along the eastern seaboard of the United States from Cape Fear North Carolina to Long Beach Island in New Jersey.

The exhibit features architectural drawings and documents from the records, vintage photographs and modern photographs from the National Archives as well as lighthouse models and artifacts donated by private citizens.

The exhibits will be open through the end of the year in the Robert N.C. Nix Federal Building on Chestnut Street between 9th and 10th Streets in Philadelphia, PA. Hours are Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month from 8am to 49m. Admission is free. For additional information call 215-597-5694.
