The Friends of Yaquina Lighthouse of Newport Oregon are completing a $37,000 lantern room restoration on the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. Upon completion of the project, and after 122 years of darkness, the light will be re-lit and the lighthouse will be re-commissioned as a private aid to navigation.

It is believed this is the longest period any U.S. Lighthouse has been out of commission and then re-lit. The lighthouse was only in service for three year, from November 3, 1871 thru October 1, 1874. The Yaquina Bay Lighthouse is open year around as a museum and also has an interpretive gift store.
