A new fence has been installed along the walkway (former breakwater) that leads to Maine’s Portland Breakwater Lighthouse in South Portland. The lighthouse, known locally as Bug Light, was relit last year and is now a new park at the site that also honors the Liberty Ships of World War II.

The fence was the result of the fund raising of one woman, Kay Loring, who raised money by selling sections of the fence for $750.00 each. The donors will get plaques installed on the breakwater. Loring said she did it because she was concerned about safety and the local authorities agreed.
