The Association for Great Lakes Maritime History has announced the winners of its 2003 Awards for Historic Preservation and Historic Interpretation.

Among this years recipients are Dick Moehl, president of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association who received the 2003 Award for Historic Preservation for his 20 years of major contributions to the preservation of Great Lakes maritime history, especially the lighthouses of the Great Lakes and his leadership in the restoration of the remote St. Helena Lighthouse

He is honored for his more than 30 years of involvement in the Great Lakes Historical Society and many years of volunteer work in the field of maritime history, education, exhibit creation, video production and publishing.

Mather Museum during 10 of the most difficult years in the museum ship’s history and Mike Sterling of the Southampton Marine Heritage Society who has led the effort to preserve and restore the historic lighthouse and keepers quarters on Chantry Island in Lake Huron for seven years.
