Harbor Lights, manufacturers of limited edition lighthouse collectible replicas, has donated $25,000 to kick off the fund raising efforts to refurbish Georgia's Tybee Island Lighthouse.

Cullen Chambers of the Tybee Island Historical Society, says that time and money have simply run out and the station may have to be closed forever if renovations are not made. Chambers stated that the station immediately needs $350,000 to make the station safe. The state legislature of Georgia recently passed a bill that would have granted the Tybee Island Historical Society $105,000 toward restoration. However the Governor vetoed the bill.

In a letter sent to members of the Harbour Lights Collectors Society, Bill Younger the founder of the company said, "Harbour Lights has been dedicated to lighthouse preservation issues since our inception. . . . We all want our grandchildren to be able to walk up the same winding lighthouse staircases as our seafaring ancestors."

Younger went on to appeal to his loyal collectors to send donations. As an extra incentive, he pledged, from his own private collection a Tybee Island replica, which has long ago been retired, to be awarded in a random drawing of collectors who donate $25.00 or more to the lighthouse. Additionally, he has stated that the top ten contributors will be his guests for dinner the next time he is in their area. Bill is always travelling all over the country for autograph signings.

If you would like to make a donation, it can be sent to; Tybee Island Historical Society, P.O. Box 366, Tybee Island, GA 31328.
