In November, Connie Small (left), known to the lighthouse community as the First Lady of Light, was visited at her home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, by Sally Snowman (right). Sally is the keeper of historic Boston Light, and is now the only official lighthouse keeper in the United States. She’s also the first woman keeper in the long history of America’s oldest light station. Connie, who spent almost 30 years living at lighthouses with her husband, Keeper Elson Small, is the author of the book The Lighthouse Keeper’s Wife. She turned 102 years old last June. Sally presented Connie with a copy of the book she wrote with her husband James G. Thompson, Boston Light: A Historical Perspective. Photo by Jeremy D’Entremont.
