A storm on January 18, 2006 brought wind gusts of 70 mph or higher and heavy rain to much of New England. Jeremy D'Entremont took these photos of Whaleback Lighthouse, located at the mouth of the Pistacaqua River, near New Castle, New Hampshire near high tide at the height of the storm.

The historic lighthouse is the newest lighthouse to come under the care of the American Lighthouse Foundation. A site visit to the lighthouse this spring

will determine the scope of the

work needed to be done to save the lighthouse. Donations for its restoration can be sent to American Lighthouse Foundation, P.O. Box 889, Wells, Maine 04090 or made on-line at www.LighthouseFoundation.org.

This story appeared in the March 2006 edition of Lighthouse Digest Magazine. The print edition contains more stories than our internet edition, and each story generally contains more photographs - often many more - in the print edition.
