New Seven Wonders of the World

Comments?

Two lighthouses are listed as among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. They were the Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

However, the Pyramids are the only one of the Seven Wonders that still stand today, so a non profit Swiss group called New7Wonders is looking to select the seven wonders of the world that are still standing.

So far, the typical lighthouse is not in the running for the new selection. However, the Statue of Liberty in New York, which once did serve as a lighthouse, is in the top 20 selections so far. Some of the other choices that seem to be in the lead are: the Acropolis in Greece; Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; the Great Wall in China; Stonehenge in Amesbury, United Kingdom; the Eiffel Tower in France; and the Taj Mahal in India.

Top Ten Lighthouses To Be Chosen

If these folks can start a movement to name the Seven Wonders of the World, we can start a movement of our own.

But, we'll call ours the Ten Most Significant Lighthouses of the World. The only rules will be that the lighthouses nominated must still be standing. The voting will be decided by you.

Send your nominations for the Top Ten Most Significant Lighthouses in the World to:
