The Friends of Rock Island recently celebrated the 150th birthday of Wisconsin’s Pottawatomie Lighthouse. The attendees enjoyed lighthouse songs, speeches, and a special Pottawatomie Lighthouse cake made by Jennifer Graham Munao.
The Pottawatomie Lighthouse was the site of the first federal lighthouse in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan and the current lighthouse at the site was built in 1858. Sine 1994 the Friends of Rock Island have worked diligently restoring the lighthouse, improving the site, opened a museum, built and installed a lantern room, furnished the light and opened it to the public and much more.
The 150th anniversary celebration included a Certificate of Commendation Proclamation from Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle.
