Workers at Long Island, New York's famous Fire Island Lighthouse are getting the historic beacon ready for its 150th Birthday Party to be held on November 1 of this year.
The workers are shown here preparing the tower for a fresh coat of paint so the old beacon will be looking her best for the big event.
It's hard to believe that in 1982 the Coast Guard was ready to tear the lighthouse down. Thanks to the efforts of the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society, the lighthouse was saved and today is a true testament to lighthouse preservation. Photographs by Karen Carlomano.
