Germany’s GroBer Vogelsand Lighthouse in the North Sea at the entrance to the Elbe River was built in 1975 to replace lightships that were once stationed in the area. By lighthouse standards its life was short lived and it was discontinued in 2003.
Reports sent to us indicate the lighthouse is now available for rent for special events, weddings etc. Wow, what a place to have a party! We’d sure like to have some photographs of any event that might have taken place there.
Other reports that have been sent to us indicate the lighthouse is scheduled to be demolished. This is one more reason we’d love to have more people send us stories and photos from lighthouses around the world.
Although this structure does not look like what most of us think of for a lighthouse, we can assure you that Germany has some architecturally beautiful lighthouses that must have some great lighthouse keeper memories associated with them. Now, if we could only have more information sent to us.
