From a distance some people at first think they've spotted a tall lighthouse and from time to time we receive letters from people asking if it ever was a lighthouse. But, it is not a lighthouse and never was.

It was built in the 1950s in Clermont, Florida by Highway 27 for tourists to view the citrus groves which have now been largely replaced by suburbia. However, the tower is still open to the public. It even includes a wishing well where you can hear your coin drop all the way to the bottom.

It may not be a lighthouse, but when you are touring Florida to visit the state's beautiful lighthouses a stop here is well worth the visit.

Thanks to Steven Livoja for donating the vintage post card.
