Michigan’s Squaw Point Lighthouse has always been of interest to lighthouse historians, especially since good photographs of the lighthouse and memories of life at the beacon have been difficult to locate.

As historian Wayne Sapulski wrote in the January 2001 issue of Lighthouse Digest, “For a lighthouse that stood for the better part of 67 years, old photographs are extremely scarce. Even the National Archives and the U.S. Coast Guard’s historian’s office do not have photographs. A few photos have appeared in other publications and very old newspapers. However, originals, suitable for photographic reproduction, remain an unsolved mystery.”

However, we are now able to share with our readers the exclusive first-ever published photographs of the first keepers of Squaw Point Lighthouse, Lemeul Marvin and his wife Katherine “Kate” Marvin, thanks to their granddaughter Carolyn Louch. . .
