Shown here in this unique and historic photograph is the Kokarsoren Lighthouse in Finland as it is being raised in 1906 on the Islet of Kokarsoren, which is located in the midst of hazardous shoals on the southern edge of the Archipelago. At first glance it appears that the tower was falling down, but in fact it was being raised into place at its new home. This lighthouse stood until 1983 when it was realized that the lattice work had deteriorated beyond repair. It was replaced by a nondescript modern aid to navigation.
