In Memory of Charles Hoffman

Comments?

t is with great sorrow that we must report the tragic death of Chuck Huffman who was killed in an automobile accident.

Chuck was one of those rare individuals who practiced what he preached. He was a true lover of lighthouses and active lighthouse preservationist. He was a former Vice President of the Chesapeake Chapter of the United States Lighthouse Society and an active subscriber to Lighthouse Digest.

Chuck made frequent trips in support of his hobby and we last saw him in Manteo, North Carolina where he made a pilgrimage to offer his support at the Congressional hearings on the saving of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

At the time of his death he was working on a book on North Carolina Lighthouses and lightships that he said would be a definitive book on the subject.

During the grave site service the minister read parts of inspirational works Chuck had collected. One of them talked about people that leave large footprints on our lives. Chuck left very large footprints in the "lighthouse community" He will be missed.

His family requested that expressions of remembrance be made to the Herb Enstwistle Lighthouse Preservation Fund c/o Anne Puppa, 6578 Ducketts Lane, Elkridge, MD 21075. Please make checks payable to Chesapeake Chapter HELP Fund. Contributions are tax deductible.
