For the first time ever there is now a book that provides a comprehensive photographic history of Wisconsin’s North Point Lighthouse, a lighthouse that until recently has remained relatively out of the spotlight.

The Milwaukee Lightship after it sank at the dock ...

The new book, North Point Milwaukee Lighthouse, is the third book from Arcadia Publishing that has been authored by noted lighthouse historians and authors Ken and Barb Wardius who have done extensive research into all of the Badger State’s many lighthouses. Their other titles from Arcadia Publishing are Wind Point Lighthouse and Cana Island Lighthouse, both of which are excellent books that contain lots of historical images and were well researched. However, in my humble opinion, they outdid themselves with North Point Milwaukee Lighthouse.

This book is packed full of lighthouse history that goes far beyond the North Point Lighthouse, although the great collection of photographs and informative text all relates back to the lighthouse in one way or another. The lighthouse duo have gathered an amazing number of historical photos and information that is sure to enthrall not only the novice lighthouse person, but also those who have a deep interest and love for all lighthouses and the history associated with them.

It is obvious that locating and compiling the mass array of photos used in the book was a major undertaking in order to compile the chapters that start with the early days of Milwaukee as a port, then on to the history of the lenses, the growth of the importance of the lighthouse and finally its renovation, preservation and future. Included are rare images of the long lost first structure that bore the name North Point Lighthouse and the current tower when it was much shorter that it is today.

I can’t say enough good things about this new book and I would highly recommend the North Point Milwaukee Lighthouse to everyone. It available from www.ArcadiaPublishing.com or from Lighthouse Digest for $21.99, plus shipping, at www.FogHornPublishing.com or by mail from Lighthouse Digest at P.O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630. You can also call 207-259-2121.
