The lighthouses were offered up for adoption in June of 2009 under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act. The City of Grand Haven immediately jumped at the opportunity to own its historic lighthouses by soliciting local citizen volunteers to form the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy, which is now raising funds to maintain the lighthouses and eventually open them to the public on a regular basis. You can follow their progress on the Facebook page of Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy.

A short story, ‘Lights of Coast Guard City, USA,’ about the history of the lighthouses was published in the October 2001 edition of Lighthouse Digest and the story can be read in our database at www.LighthouseDigest.com.
