As a follow-up to our story about the dry-docking repairs to the historic lightship that we published in the most recent issue of Lighthouse Digest, we are now sharing with you some photos of the completed hull exterior work and the re-launching of the vessel as it made its way under the tow of a tugboat to South Boston, Massachusetts for Phase II of the restoration.
Most consider the Lightship Nantucket LV-112 as the most historically significant lightship to operate in American waters. It was the most expensive United States lightship ever built and it was paid for as compensation by the White Star Line, whose vessel the RMS Olympic, in 1934, struck and sank the Nantucket Lightship LV-117.
