We are sorry to report on the passing of Ann Caneer who was a founding member and first president of the Florida Lighthouse Association. She was also a founding member of the Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Society who worked tirelessly for 15 years as a volunteer and then, in 1985, as the group’s first Executive Director working for more than thirty-six years to restore the Ponce De Leon Light Station.

Last year the Board of Commissioners of the Florida Lighthouse Association voted to change the name of their annual President’s Award to the “Ann Caneer President’s Award” to honor her and the legacy she created. Our condolences go out to Ann’s family and friends. She set an example that others can follow.
