After fourteen years, the proposed National Lighthouse Museum in Staten Island, New York at the site of the old Lighthouse Depot is still struggling to get open. The latest setback was the severe damage caused to the site by Hurricane Sandy. But the Board of the museum has refused to be daunted and they continue to move forward.

Shown here are artist renditions of the proposed main exhibit building and what the interior will look like. The exhibits in Building 11 will include permanent displays of the history of the Fresnel lens, the Wall of Lights with model sponsorship available, a timeline of lighthouse history, a history of the site of the old Lighthouse Depot where the museum is located, a history of lighthouses from ancient Egypt to today, a Light Keeper’s Wall where the story of the lighthouse keepers and their families will be told, and much more.

If you are interested in being a sponsor of one the exhibits or making a donation, you can visit their web site at www.NationalMuseum.org or you can mail them at National Lighthouse Museum, One Lighthouse Plaza, P.O. Box 10296, Staten Island, NY 10301-0296.
