The Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum recently completed restoration of the 154-foot tall Tybee Island Lighthouse on Tybee Island, Georgia. Included in the work were the power washing of the tower, patching cracks, and repainting. The completion of the work was celebrated by a ribbon cutting ceremony this past March 25.
The completion of the project was the last preservation project started under the direction of the late Cullen Chambers, Executive Director of the Tybee Island Historical Society.
Although modified in the 1800s, the Tybee Island Lighthouse is one of the few surviving colonial era lighthouse towers. (Photos courtesy of Wendy Brewer, Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum.)
