This new soft cover book, by James E. Candow, examines the relationship between people, place and technology at the Cape Spear Lighthouse in Newfoundland, Canada. However, you’ll need to be a big fan of the Cape Spear Lighthouse or a hard core lover of lighthouses to really appreciate this book. The book covers the technological changes that had profound effects on lightkeepers and their families and how their lives continued with these changes but still had the aspects of the traditional culture of lighthouse life. The human aspects of the book are interesting but the technical data in the book can be overwhelming for the average reader and may even be boring to many. For such an historic lighthouse it should have included more photos. 168 pages. For more information on how to purchase the book go to www.fernwoodpublishing.ca or e-mail info@fernpub.ca
