Many of you older folks will remember that line from the TV program “To Tell the Truth” that aired from 1956 to 1968. In this case, if both men had been present on the TV program, they would have both stood up, but only one of them was associated with lighthouses.
For many years the image of the man on the left was assumed to be Winslow Lewis (1770-1850), the builder of lighthouses. However, the U.S. Lighthouse Society recently discovered that the man on the left, although he also has the same name, is the son of Winslow Lewis who had a doctorate in history. The photo of the man on the right is of the Winslow Lewis who was the builder of lighthouses.
