On August 8, 1989 a large number of dignitaries gathered at Boston Lighthouse on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts to celebrate the Bicentennial Lighthouse Fund.

Standing and giving remarks on that date is the Secretary of State Michael J. Connolly of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, who at the time was also the Chairman of the Massachusetts Historical Commission. At the time he announced the funding of restoration projects for several lighthouses in Massachusetts. Seated to the right of Connolly is Captain J.O. Bernard, Group Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard, Boston. The lady in the photo is unidentified.

The Boston Light Station was first established on Little Brewster Island in 1716 and is celebrating its 300th Anniversary this year. Watch for more information about Boston Lighthouse in an upcoming edition of Lighthouse Digest. (Photo by Ted Fitzgerald, Lighthouse Digest archives.)
