Port Clinton Lighthouse Returns With New Fresnel Lens

After being moved in 2011 from a private marina to a warehouse to be restored, the 1800s Port Clinton Lighthouse in Port Clinton, Ohio has finally arrived at its new home on the Lake Erie Shore just east of the Portage River.

The delay in getting the lighthouse moved to its new location after being restored was caused by long- term negotiations between the Port Clinton Lighthouse Conservancy and local government officials.

After the lighthouse was moved to its new location, a new 5th order Fresnel lens manufactured by Dan Spinella of Artworks Florida Classical Fresnel Lenses was installed in the lantern. On Monday, September 26, 2016, the lighthouse was rededicated in a ceremony attended by well over 100 people.

The lighthouse was moved and saved thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Port Clinton Lighthouse Conservancy, which is to be congratulated for their efforts in restoring the lighthouse, moving it twice and installing a Fresnel lens. Their tenacity paid off.
