Jeff Shook, who recently purchased the Port Sanilac Lighthouse in Port Sanilac, Michigan, opened the lighthouse for public tours this past September 10th. This may have been only the second time in history that the lighthouse was open to the public. As expected, the line of people was long as people waited to climb the tower where they were able to view the historic Fresnel lens in the lantern for the last time in history. Following the Open House event, the United States Coast Guard removed the beautiful 4th order Fresnel lens and replaced it with a modern LED light. The old Fresnel lens will eventually be on display at the lighthouse. (Photos courtesy Jeff Shook)
