Cape Hatteras - America's Lighthouse

Comments?

The story about Dexter Stetson, the carpenter who built the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, by Cheryl Shelton-Roberts in the May 1999 issue of Lighthouse Digest should have been credited to the forthcoming book CAPE HATTERAS: AMERICA'S LIGHTHOUSE by Thomas Yocum, Bruce Roberts, and Cheryl Shelton-Roberts published by Cumberland House Pulishing. Lighthouse Digest regrets this omission. The authors have been researching this book for a number of years. The history of the Historic National Landmark is done in great depth and is joined with new research on Stetson, Augustin Fresnel, and up-to-date coverage of the relocation of the lighthouse. With stories including the building of the 1803 sandstone tower at Cape Hatteras, attempts to build a light on Diamond Shoals, a lightship crew who braves a hurricane and another sunk by German U-boat gunfire, and details on the one of the most daunting engineering tasks imaginable to move the tallest lighthouse in America to safety, CAPE HATTERAS: AMERICA'S LIGHTHOUSE is a "must have" book for anyone who loves lighthouses . It is illustrated with full-color photography and illustrations as well as more than 100 historical black and white photographs and drawings. It is being issued in paperback for $14.95 (Item #91528) and hardcover at $22.95 (Item #91529), available this July. You can order your copy from Lighthouse Depot by calling 1-800-758-1444.
