Built in 1879, the Race Rock Lighthouse off the western end of Fishers Island in New York State is an important example of early lighthouse engineering. The architect was F. Hopkinson Smith, who also worked on the foundation of the Statue of Liberty.

Although the ownership of the lighthouse was transferred to the New London Maritime Society in 2013, very few people have yet to ever see the inside of the lighthouse. That may change once the lighthouse is restored, but in the meantime, here are a few interior images taken last year by Nick Korstad.
