The Currituck Beach Light Station in Corolla, North Carolina has received some tender loving care in preparation for the 145th anniversary of its first lighting on December 1, 1875.
Much of the work at the light station was done by ICC Commonwealth, formerly known as International Chimney Corporation, which is the company famous for moving such lighthouses as that state’s Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
The Currituck Beach Lighthouse is owned by the Outer Banks Conservationists which operates a gift shop and museum at the site and opens the tower, with its beautiful ornate interior, for public climbing. The lighthouse was constructed with over one million bricks and weighs nine million pounds.
