This photo, courtesy of David Irish, was found in the collection of Levi B. Clark, who served as a lighthouse keeper at a number of lighthouses in Massachusetts in the early 1900s, including Cuttyhunk.

Cuttyhunk Island Lighthouse, near Gosnold, Massachusetts, was heavily damaged during the 1944 Great Atlantic Hurricane, which sunk the Vineyard Lightship stationed within sight of the island.

In 1947, the Coast Guard decided to erect a metal skeletal tower on Cuttyhunk Island and subsequently they demolished the lighthouse and the keeper’s house.

The light atop the skeletal tower was discontinued in 2005, and the tower was removed.
