At the celebration, the attendees heard from a number of people who stepped to the podium to talk about the history of the light station and its future. The participants included descendants of the keepers and others who grew up in the shadow of the 1823 tower, as well as a musical selection, and the comments from Park Superintendent David Hallac, who spoke about the upcoming plans to restore and save the Ocracoke Light Station.
