Although the United States flag is flying high at Australia’s Cape Otway Lighthouse, Australia has not deeded the lighthouse to the USA. The ceremony shown here was the commemoration of the loss of the vessel Eric the Red in 1880. When Bob Adams of the Cape Otway Lighthouse was in the United States recently, Doug Bingham of the American Lighthouse Foundation presented him with a United States flag to take back to Australia with him. With the American Consul being present for the ceremony at the lighthouse, Bob thought it was the perfect time to fly the U.S. flag.
