This lighthouse was designed by Alexander Gordon. It was built mainly at the insistence of the Americans who had many ships travelling to and from the Turks Islands, mostly trading in salt. From January through March this is a good location to view passing humpback whales, and throughout the year osprey are regular visitors, often perching on the lighthouse railings. The original Fresnel lens from the lighthouse is in the Turks and Caicos National Museum. Directions:
There are no organized tours of the lighthouse and access to the lighthouse itself is prohibited. However, local taxi drivers will take visitors there.
