Built at a cost of $2 million this lighthouse was solarized in 1995 and deactivated in 2003. Declared excess property, the GSA sold the lighthouse at auction in 2010 for $85,000 to businessman Richard Neal who plans to restore it and open it for overnight stays and retreats.
