On April 27, 2004, the light station was transferred to the Gastineau Channel Historical Society under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000.
The society plans to establish a Southeast Alaska Maritime Interpretive Center here. A Fresnel lens from this lighthouse is on display at Alki Point Lighthouse in WA.
