The newspapers honed in on Lila Adeline Jones’ svelte appearance and played up the 40 year age difference between her and Herbert H. Luff prior to their marriage in 1931. Jones was Luff’s third wife for only 48 hours before she absconded with a truck driver. She claimed that lighthouse life was not for her. (Oakland Tribune, March 18, 1931.)
