Photo Caption:

The original Presque Isle Beacon Range Lighthouse in Pennsylvania was apparently built in 1830 and reportedly destroyed in 1857 when it was hit by a sailing vessel. It was replaced by the tower shown here. Over the years, the structure was moved at least twice and slightly altered in appearance. It is also known as the Presque Isle North Pierhead Lighthouse and the Erie Pierhead Lighthouse, which is the name it is most commonly known as. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
