The restored brass foghorns, which are irreplaceable, weighed approximately 60 pounds each. The foghorns were restored a few years ago in honor of the late Royal English, a volunteer at the lighthouse who, with the use of compressed air from scuba tanks, would sound them off on special occasions. Most believe that the foghorns have probably been sold for scrap and will never be recovered. One local person said, in referring to the thieves who he hopes will be caught, “They should be strung up by their toes.”
